Welcome back!  We are excited to start another year here at Mtn. View.  I hope you had a restful and joyful summer. We are filled with excitement about the year ahead. There is truly something special about the first days of school - new faces, fresh goals, and countless opportunities to learn and grow.

Mrs. Katie Reeves,

Principal

Message from Assistant Principal Matt Taylor

My name is Matt Taylor, and I’m so excited to be joining Mountain View Elementary as your Assistant Principal Intern for the 2025–2026 school year. I am a National Board Certified Teacher entering my 19th year in education, and I feel incredibly honored to be part of such a strong and caring school community.

I live in the western part of the county with my wife, who teaches first grade, and our children. I love history, learning new things, and spending time with my family and our fur babies. I believe in the power of strong relationships, supporting student growth, and working alongside teachers and families to help every child succeed.

I can’t wait to get to know our amazing dragon students and families. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s ever anything I can do to support you.

Here’s to a great year—Dragons have the best VIEW!

Birthday Book Club

Celebrate your child's birthday by purchasing a book in their honor from a specially curated list of books to be donated to the school's library. Each book will have a name plate inside with the name of your child and will be placed on the special birthday shelf in the library. What a special way to celebrate their special day for years to come! More information can be found at Mountain View’s Birthday Book Club Website.

Kindness Kickoff

Our world needs more Kindness! That’s why  Kindness is how we are starting the school  year. Our definition of Kindness is acting with understanding, generosity, and care. You’ll hear a lot about Kindness this year because it is also 1 of our 3 outcomes:  Be Kind, Be Strong, Be Well

Attention Parents

*Update your child’s information*

Important Update: Parents, if you have not downloaded the Infinite Campus App and updated your child’s information we need that completed ASAP.  We are not bringing in old info from PowerSchool, so every family needs to update their household information, medical details, and emergency contacts.

It is crucial for maintaining a safe learning environment and keeping you informed about your child’s school life. Plus, the Parent Portal is your go-to spot to check your child’s progress, chat with teachers, fill out forms, and more!  Don’t wait! Download the Parent Portal app from the Google or Apple Store or log in online.

Library Corner

Welcome back! Students in lower grades will be bringing home books in their library bags. Some are a little worn but they still work. Please remember not to throw their bags away as these bags help to keep the books clean and dry. I am working to raise money to purchase a different type of bag for upper grade students to carry their books in to help them keep books protected.

Our book fair is coming up September 29-October 3.

The Fair will be open the Saturday before on September, 27 from 10:00 am - 2:00pm.

Parent Involvement

We have a new volunteer application platform so everyone will need to complete a new application for this school year.  Beginning July 1, 2025, all previous Wilkes County Schools volunteers at all levels must reapply to become a volunteer for the 2025-2026 school year. Please follow the steps below to become approved.

  • First go to the Wilkes County Website
  • Go to the parent tab and scroll to the bottom and volunteer tab
  • Individuals may apply to become a volunteer at two different levels.
  • Level 1 Volunteer – This includes volunteer activities not requiring direct contact with students without the supervision of Wilkes County Schools personnel. Level 1 volunteers do not require formal screenings.
  • Level 2 Volunteer – This includes volunteer activities requiring direct contact with and supervision of students for extended periods of time without direct supervision of school personnel (i.e., school chaperones).
  • Please click here to apply.

We encourage everyone to apply for Level 2 volunteer to be able to volunteer for events such as our fall festival, and book fairs.

Parents/Guardians

We are excited to invite you to eat lunch with your child in our new picnic area out front of our main office. This space is created to provide students and families with a relaxed, welcoming environment to enjoy lunch together and make memories.
